I love you, Mr. Juster, and I loved The Phantom Tollbooth, and I loved hearing you speak at NEIBA this year–but Sourpuss and Sweetie Pie didn’t quite do it for me. It seemed disjointed in a way that was unproductive, rather than heightening the duality you were trying to present. Perhaps your own granddaughter was, in this case, a subject you knew to well to write about in a way that appeals to others more universally? Anyway, the art was very cool, yay Chris Raschka, but the text didn’t always work. Hence, three stars.
