I wanted to like How to Ditch Your Fairy. I did like the premise, but the dialect in the book really irked me, and the ending was unsatisfactory. It had its good moments, but it seemed a little…unkempt, somehow. Like things didn’t tie together quite the way I wanted them to, and the narrator was a little difficult to identify with. I feel like there was some kind of social commentary that you were trying to get at, underneath the portrayal of a slightly futuristic sports school where everything other than doing schoolwork and breathing was a demerit, but it never really came through. It was fun, though, for sure, and went very well with The Cabinet of Wonders and Savvy in my recent reading–all three are set in a world where either some or most people have some kind of unique special ability. Three stars for this incarnation of that trope, though.
